RANKED · 365 BRANDS QUALIFY · FDD FILINGS 2024–2026 · NONE OLDER THAN TWO YEARS
Which franchises closed the most outlets in their latest FDD?
Ranked by the NUMBER of franchised outlets that left the system in the latest fiscal year — terminations, non-renewals and "ceased operations — other reasons" — as each franchisor reported them in Item 20 of its latest FDD. Big systems lead this list because they are big; read it with the exit-rate list, which adjusts for size.
Ratings, verdicts, scores and rankings on this site are opinions produced by a published method from public filings and loan records, much of it machine-extracted. They are not statements of fact about any company's financial condition, solvency or prospects, not a recommendation to buy, avoid or invest in any franchise, and not investment, legal or tax advice. How the method works.

Outlets exited = terminations + non-renewals + ceased operations (other reasons), from Table 3 of each brand's latest FDD Item 20 (no more than two years old) as extracted by us, descending. Transfers to new owners and franchisor reacquisitions are not counted. Where the filing's own Item 20 footnote says some "ceased — other" outlets kept operating (rebranded to a sister concept of the same franchisor, or absorbed by another franchisee), those are subtracted and the brand page quotes the footnote. Only figures that pass the same consistency check the exit-rate list uses are included; systems with fewer than 50 franchised units at the start of the year, or none at year end, are excluded. An exit is not a failure: it can be a relocation, a conversion or a planned restructuring, and the FDD does not say why each outlet left. Figures can contain errors — check the linked FDD and tell us if one is wrong.
Universe: every brand tracked here whose latest filing is a machine extraction from a public FDD (state regulator portals, chiefly Minnesota CARDS), filed 2024–2026. Filings more than two years old and sample/seed data never enter a ranking. Each row's “FDD” link is the official document the figure came from; each brand link leads to the full sourced profile. See the site methodology for extraction and confidence rules.

A broker is usually paid by the franchisor to place you. I'm paid only by you, never by a franchisor you're considering — and the job is pressure-testing the numbers, including talking you out of a bad deal.
